Welcome to our Internet Dojo.
I am
the "Head of Family" for KIDO RYU.
In the neighborhood, I am known as "Sifu".
I have been the Director/Chief Instructor of the
KIDO Martial Arts Center since 1982.
My name is Ruben Torres.
KIDO Martial Arts has been serving the
Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York community since 1970.
Since 1982, Professor RubenTorres has
continued the teachings of KIDO.
This spring (2006)he passed the honor to
Master Jose Hernandez, first generation student of Master William F. Velez. The current Director
for
KIDO Martial Arts: Master Jose Hernandez/Miami,
Fla.
The current offerrings made by
Professor Ruben Torres come under the title:
KIDO RYU.
This offerring is a self expression.
Our art form KIDO RYU is a combination art, our basic foundation
is from the Korean art of Hapkido.
Our curriculum has elements of Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, Northern Shaolin Kung
Fu, and Yang Tai Chi.
We are currently promoting our
"in the Dojo use" program
to implement self defense courses
to schools and programs that do not or have not before offerred self defense to their
students.
We bring our Ukemi Skills Program/learning to
roll & fall safely.
Flexibility Program/learn to
stretch safely and correctly.
Throws & Reaps Program/learn to
do 7 basic Judo throws along with
the basic reaps and sweeps.
Self Defense/interchangeable technique &
transitional footwork.
Develop the student from novice to advanced, safely and correctly.
For parents, students or organizations wanting to access the
KIDO Program, we have long term students available to bring our curriculum and agenda to your school, Dojo, afterschool program,
or for private instructions.
Our Demo team is always available with enough notice to help
with your fundraising events.

Our Mission
at this point in time, is to
spread KIDO RYU to all
who are receptive.
In the early days, only the hardiest
warriors
came to the Dojo.
I have redefined the guidelines of KIDO,
in order to make it accessible to every
one, from every walk of life.
We accept students of all challenges.
No one is turned away, for any reason whether it be physical or financial.
We have had some wonderful results with
our KIDO Tots, KIDO Kids, KIDO Teens, and our
KIDO Adults programs over the years.
We are
presently seeking
Major Sponsorship to enable our
community work to continue.
We are seeking a host for our
Dojo.
Also, our KIDO
TEAM the
"KIDO FAMILY CLAN"
are often invited to represent
the
United States at the World Games and
National Events.
Most
of the time these offers come without any financial assistance. We need help to get to the competitions that will showcase the
talent of our student body. Please help!
